Home Delivery Picks For Cooked Dog Food

I take a simple, no-frills approach to food. Whenever possible, I prefer to make my own meals. I suppose that’s a bit old-fashioned, but I believe it’s the best way to know exactly what goes into what we (and our dogs) eat.

My goal is to help you feel confident and empowered when choosing the right food for your dog.

Ideally, I recommend preparing your dog’s meals at home. However, I also understand that life doesn’t always allow for that. When making your own food isn’t an option, here are some solid alternatives depending on your budget and preferences:

  • Premium Option (when budget is not a concern): Evermore Pet Food
    • Human-grade ingredients
    • Balanced recipes designed by veterinary nutritionists
    • Excellent sourcing standards
  • Holistic, TCVM-Inspired Option: All Provide
    • Recipes inspired by Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and formulated by Dr. Judy Morgan
    • Focus on whole foods and natural balance
  • Middle Road Options: Raised Right, My Ollie, The Farmer’s Dog, and Just Food for Dogs
    • Fresh, pre-portioned meals delivered to your door
    • Convenient while still maintaining quality and transparency
  • Budget-Friendly Option: Freshpet (available at Costco and most grocery stores)
    • More affordable, widely available fresh food
    • Better than most commercial kibble choices

I’ve personally purchased and sampled all of these brands to better understand their quality. Some contain more meat, while others use less, but all have unique qualities worth considering.

There’s a lot of conflicting information about what’s “good” and what’s “bad” when it comes to dog food. At the end of the day, instead of trying to figure out what’s “right” in theory, I encourage you to focus on what’s true for your dog.

This means doing a bit of trial and error. By testing different options, you’ll quickly see how your dog responds. Most dogs will show noticeable results within a week—whether in their energy, digestion, coat, or overall demeanor.

I recommend trying at least three different brands. This gives you a reference point to compare and decide what works best for your dog’s unique needs.

Every dog is an individual, and their responses can vary widely. That’s why all of the brands I’ve listed are viable alternatives when you prefer the convenience of having someone else prepare the food.

My own cooked dog food formulas are the result of years of experience—feeding my own dogs, supporting thousands of other pet parents with my recipes, and working directly in the pet food industry. I’ve experimented with raw, cooked, and even kibble. After seeing how food is made and how dogs respond, I’ve concluded that while raw works for some, cooked food is generally better received by the majority of dogs.

I hope you find this list helpful as you navigate the best feeding options for your dog.

Warmly,
Hannah
